6 easy and little-known hiking trails in Trentino

“Follow me, I’ll take you somewhere only I know”. An invitation that paves the way to strange scenes and mini-adventures. Usually, we hear it said by someone we trust, someone we can be sure will introduce us to a new place that we will fall in love with too.

And that’s how it will be with the trails we recommend in this article. Few people know about these, the less-travelled paths, yet they are all beautiful, winding through woods and meadows in flower where you can breathe in the clean mountain air.

The Segonzano Castle and the Prà - Cembra canyon

From Segonzano, this loop itinerary takes you to the Avisio stream, passing by the ruins of the Segonzano Castle and crossing some hamlets that retain the characteristic features of small mountain villages. Halfway along the route, the Avisio stream will offer you a natural swimming pool, showing off beautiful blue-green hues. A tip: embark upon this itinerary with the spirit of travelers who take the time to stop to look at what surrounds them.

At the foot of the Cimerlo towers - San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero, Vanoi

There is a corner of Val Canali where your steps cross paths with great literature. Walking here means following in the footsteps of Dino Buzzati, the journalist and writer who, more than anyone, captured the deep, intimate, and mysterious soul of the mountains, making this valley his summer home for many years.
This trail is a spectacular panoramic balcony overlooking the Pale di San Martino, where a thrilling visual contrast comes to life.

Malga Sass - Val di Fiemme

This short and easy itinerary leads you to discover pastures in bloom and a fantastic “balcony” overlooking Val di Fiemme. From Malga Sass, that welcomes you placidly nestled among flowering meadows, in about half an hour you can reach “Pradi da le Fior”, a mountain pasture that offers an exceptional view over Val di Fiemme. Here everything invites you to a picnic stop! You are at the highest point of the itinerary; from this point on, the walk is made of slight ups and downs all the way to Malga Coston, and then back to Malga Sass.

Ischia Lake - Piana Rotaliana

The Ischia Lake is a small body of water of natural origin and can be reached in a short time from Mezzocorona or Mezzolombardo, pleasantly walking through vineyards. It also offers the possibility of fishing (upon purchase of a guest permit), relaxing surrounded by nature, enjoying a picnic and the beautiful view of the Piana Rotaliana countryside. From here, if you feel like putting yourself to the test, you can take the Strada delle Longhe trail and the Burrone Giovanelli via ferrata.

To the Corondoler Waterfall - Vallagarina

The itinerary starts from the parking lot of the Monte Baldo mountain hut and runs along the initial stretch of the canal that carries water from the Corondoler source to the homonymous waterfalls. From here, you descend along the stream, ford it and then continue towards the Pian della Cenere meadows, from which you climb up again to reach the starting point.

Kneipp path - Valorz Waterfalls

This walk crosses one of the most spectacular places in Val di Rabbi. Start from the San Bernardo parking lot (1,098 m) and follow the signs for the Kneipp path. The "Sentiero Rio Valorz" cultural trail winds through historic alpine barns, woods, and rushing streams. Here you will find animal sculptures made from natural materials by artist Maurizio Misseroni, accompanied by verses by poet Teresa Girardi. Halfway through, the SAT 121 trail leads you in about half an hour to the majestic Valorz waterfalls, an ideal area for a picnic. Upon your return, relaxation awaits you at the outdoor Kneipp path.
