The old Knòpp sawmill

The Venetian sawmill in Palù del Fersina, located in Knoppe in the Valle dei Mòcheni, is a treasure of inestimable value for the history, culture and identity of the Trentino area. Immersed in a beautiful natural landscape, the structure was originally part of a rare system of factories operated by the force of water that also included a mill and a forge, offering an almost unique testimony in Trentino of the coexistence of these three historic hydraulic machines.

Already documented in the maps of the Austrian land registry of 1856 and remained in operation until the 1960s, the sawmill still retains its masonry base and the memory of the original wooden machinery. Thanks to careful philological restoration, this ancient factory has been fully restored and returned to the community. Today the sawmill has become an accessible space for productive archaeology, designed to preserve historical memory and to educate the public about the deep bond that unites human work, nature, water and the surrounding landscape.
