From the Castle to the Mountain - Outbound
Themed route inspired by the centuries-old controversies between the Magnificent Community of Folgaria and the Trapp Counts, feudal lords of Castel Beseno, the large manor located at the mouth of the Rio Cavallo Rosspach valley. Castel Beseno, the destination of the route, is the largest castle in Trentino Alto Adige, home to events and historical reenactments.
The route consists of a long descent from the plateau to the valley floor, traveling for long stretches along what was the ancient medieval road. Points of interest along the way include the 16th-century chapel of San Valentino, the villages of Upper and Lower Mezzomonte, the Ponte di Folgaria farmhouse, the Rio Cavallo - Rosspach stream, and of course the castle. The destination is therefore Beseno Castle (equipped with permanent exhibitions), located on the homonymous hill. For the return, there are two options: by bus (Rovereto - Folgaria line, see schedules at www.ttesercizio.it) with a stop in the nearby village of Dietrobeseno or on foot (challenging) following the return path on the left orographic side of the valley passing through the villages of Ondertol and Guardia.
