This route runs at altitude along a path that alternates large meadows with sections of woods. In a short time it reaches the large and panoramic summit of Monte Macaion, which dominates from above the Val Passiria, Merano, the Adige Valley, Bolzano, and the unmistakable profile of the Dolomites and Sarntal Alps.

    Author’s recommendation

The time indicated here refers to the round trip from Tret lake. To get an idea of the total walking time, you need to add the time required to reach the lake on foot (about 1 hour) and to return from the lake to the parking lot (about 45 minutes).

    Roadbook

From Tret lake, continue towards the nearby Waldruhe hut and here take trail 500 heading east.

The trail descends through the woods until it reaches the forest road that climbs toward the summit of Macaion. Continue always following trail 500 which cuts through some hairpin bends of the forest road and then with a steady incline reaches the panoramic summit of Monte Macaion.

The return is along the same route as the outward journey.
