In the footsteps of mountain animals at Ciampac
A high-altitude journey into nature, following the tracks of mountain wildlife. A sensory experience in a sunlit glacial basin, where warmth comes not only from the winter light, but also from the welcoming embrace of a Ladin mountain hut.
A natural amphitheatre shaped by glaciers, the Ciampac basin is just about the best you could wish for on a snowshoe day. Whether exploring on your own or with a mountain guide, the route unfolds step by step like a panoramic balcony over the Sella and Pordoi groups, all the way to Marmolada, set against a dramatic backdrop of dark rock - Crepa Neigra. Because once, long ago, there was a volcano here. The basin is home to mouflon, chamois, stoats, foxes and hares, whose tracks can often be clearly seen in the snow. <br />This circular walk invites silence and steady breathing: you move forward, spend your breath, let your words fall away… until a well-earned, delicious break in one of the surrounding mountain huts. A journey into the heart of Ladin hospitality - shelter, smiles that feel like an embrace, and steaming dishes that restore your energy before heading back out on the trail.
