The Line of Nozzolo – The Great War Itineraries
A hike in the footsteps of the Kaiserjäger explorers, traced through the pages of the journal kept by Austrian Lieutenant Felix Hecht von Eleda, taking you from Malga Ringia all the way up to the summit of Nozzolo.
Starting from the small hamlet of Deserta, in the municipality of Pieve di Bono, located just beyond the Forte Carriola fort, the route follows a path through a forest of centuries-old fir trees and into the picturesque open basin of the Malga Ringia hut. Here, a marker stone with a crucifix crafted from metal remnants dating back to World War I points the way towards Malga Cadria / Pozza di Cadria. As the forest gradually thins out, it gives way to the wide pastures of the Malga Cadria hut. The summit of the Monte Nozzolo mountain, marked by a plaque commemorating Lieutenant Felix Hecht, awaits the hiker. From the summit, the route descends across grassland to the Malga Campel bivouac, before proceeding through a fragrant, silent forest back to the Malga Ringia hut and finally to the hamlet of Deserta.
