Trails of the Great War
A fascinating historical tour through the mountains of the Mòcheni Valley, leading visitors to discover remnants of World War I, including trenches, bunkers, walkways, and old military settlements.
The entire route allows visitors to explore numerous historical sites preserved at high altitude: trenches, bunkers, walkways, water tanks, the remains of military barracks, and defensive positions.
The route is divided into three sections:

The first connects Mount Panarotta to Mount Fravort (Hoabort) and features trenches, underground bunkers, walkways, and the remains of the settlements of the Zillertal Battalion and the Standschützen Kaltern I.

In the second section, from Monte Fravort to Sasso Rotto, you’ll find the Feldkapelle, the distinctive field chapel restored in 2000, along with the remains of structures used by the Reutte II Battalion, including restored officers’ barracks and water storage tanks.

The third section connects Sasso Rotto to the village of Karl and crosses the areas where the Kaiserschützen, led by Lieutenant Engelbert Dollfuss, Chancellor of Austria, were stationed. The writer Robert Musil also worked in this sector during his stay in the Valle dei Mòcheni.
