Molina di Ledro

On Ledro Lake’s shores, Molina is famous for its Bronze Age pile-dwelling village

Molina di Ledro is well-known for the remains of a Bronze Age pile-dwelling village. But also its town-centre and frazioni deserve a visit, as they are built in the local traditional style. Part of the town was actually destroyed and rebuilt after World War I.

When draining the lake for the Hydroelectric Power Plant in Riva del Garda in 1929, over 10.000 piles were found and revealed that this was the location of one of the most important prehistoric settlements in the area. After this amazing discovery, the Museo delle Palafitte museum was set up, to gather artefacts, relics and other material found in the settlement.

And that’s not all. There is a wealth of educational and cultural projects aiming at spreading awareness about life in ancient times, especially to schools. Special mention goes to Archeo Lab, an association specialized in imitative archaeology for educational purposes, based in Molina di Ledro. On Ledro Lake’s shores in Besta, a lovely beach with many facilities was opened in a walking distance from hotels, campsites and apartments.
