On piste safety: rules for skiers and snowboarders
Spend a carefree day on the slopes. Safety above all!
1. Respect for others!
Skiers and snowboarders must always behave in such a way so they don’t endanger others.
2. Don't drink alcohol before skiing
Remember that it is forbidden to ski while intoxicated as a result of the use of alcoholic beverages (the limits laid down in the Highway Code will be applied, i.e. 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood) or under the influence of drugs. The competent authorities (police, carabinieri, financial police, local police) can carry out checks on the slopes.
3. Mandatory insurance
From this year, insurance becomes mandatory for those who use the alpine ski slopes (excluding cross-country tracks). It is an insurance policy for civil liability for damage caused to people or things.
4. Helmet mandatory
When practicing alpine skiing and snowboarding, everyone should wear an approved protective helmet. This safety measure is mandatory for skiers under the age of 18 practicing alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemarking, sledding or sledding and for skiers and snowboarders on the competitive training slopes or in the areas dedicated to the practice of acrobatic tricks.
5. Speed control and conduct
Skiers and snowboarders must always keep their speed under control. They must adapt speed and style in accordance to their abilities, also be aware of the terrain conditions and the quality of the snow.
6. Choice of pathway
Always remember that skiers and snowboarders ahead of you have restricted visibility. Therefore, it is your responsibility- when approaching- to choose the right path to avoid collisions.
7. Overtaking
Before overtaking another skier, make sure you have enough space and visibility. Always remember to give enough space for the person you overtake.
8. Entering and crossing pistes
At intersections you must change your trajectory and reduce your speed to avoid any contact with skiers coming from another direction or from another slope
9. Stopping
Unless it is absolutely necessary, skiers and snowboarders should avoid stopping along narrow parts of the piste or where visibility is restricted, especially in blind spots.
10. Climbing and descending on foot
If it’s necessary to climb or descend on foot, you must keep on the side of the slope. In low visibly conditions you must not attempt the climb or the descent on foot.
11. Signs and marking
All skiers and snowboarders must obey all signs and markings.
12. Assistance
In the event of an accident it is everyone’s duty to provide assistance and first aid.
13. Identification
If you are involved in or witness of an accident, you are required to exchange name, address and personal details.
14. Equipment and routes
When on the piste you must be aware of the type of equipment used by others, such as Telemark, Snowboard, Ski Blade and therefore of their trajectories.
