Desmonteada de Soraga
Feast, complete with a parade in traditional Ladin costume, for the cattle comeback to the village after the summer spent in the alpine pastures at San Pellegrino Pass
It is always a joyful moment when the cattle return to the valley from the pastures. And it is especially so in Soraga, where the "Desmonteada" still shows all the authenticity of the ancient rite. Not to be missed, therefore, is the parade of cows, sheep, goats, donkeys and pigs at 12.30 p.m. along the village's main street, accompanied, of course, by the shepherds, shepherdesses and herdsmen who have looked after them all summer long. The arrival of the dense group is at the bucolic "Prà del Preve" (green area in front of the church), and the surrounding area, where the festivities begin at 9 a.m. with the opening of the market stalls and the cheese-making demonstration, next to the St Pietro and Paolo church. From 10 a.m., the "Aizenponeri" from Predazzo and "Gipflplattler" from South Tyrol groups warm up the atmosphere with dancing and folk music. At 10.30 a.m. toasts are made with a peasant aperitif at the square "Piaz de Bepo Roch". At 12 noon, the kitchens are set in motion for the authentically flavoured lunch at the end of the parade, followed by music by the "Böhmische da Vich" (a reduced formation of the "Mùsega da Vich" brass band) and performances by the Mountain Folk Group.
The "Desmonteada" is organized by the Soraga municipality with the association "Malghe e pascoli di Soraga".
The main road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12.30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
