KEVIN HAYS TRIO - Dolomiti Ski Jazz
Concert of the Kevin Hays Jazz Trio, three musicians from different generations, united by a unique creative focus and an interpretive-executive quality at the top of the global jazz scene.
Concert of the Kevin Hays Trio (USA): Kevin Hays on piano, Alexander Claffy on double bass, and Eric Harland on drums.
Pianist Kevin Hays boasts a distinguished career, having worked alongside great musicians from a young age. He made his professional debut at seventeen with Nick Brignola's group and went on to collaborate with illustrious musicians such as George Coleman, Benny Golson, Roy Haynes, Joe Henderson, Joshua Redman, Sonny Rollins, John Scofield, and Al Foster. For many years, Hays has been one of the leading musicians on the international scene, thanks to his collaborations with artists like Seamus Blake, Larry Grenadier, and Bill Stewart, with whom he worked intensively in his own group, Sangha. He also worked with Chris Potter, Scott Colley, Brian Blade, and Doug Weiss, and has appeared on several trio recordings with Bill Stewart. Through the 2000s, Hays has built an impressive discography in trio and solo piano, which has earned widespread recognition from the press, establishing him as one of the most consistent and intense pianists of his generation. His innate class and wide-ranging experience have distilled into a very personal style, characterized by extraordinary harmonic sensitivity, a rare rhythmic effectiveness, and a refined, brilliant sound. A pianist with excellent technical skill and jazz competence, Hays can fully express himself in any musical context. He is also a master at creating special resonances, thanks to his remarkable talent for crafting new “voicings” in his harmonic reinventions. Moreover, he has the ability to create an enveloping and shifting sound, built from layered rhythmic harmonies that he repeatedly overlaps and reorganizes. This technical mastery is always aimed at achieving a result that is a complete artistic expression, essential and engaging. The trio with Harland and Claffy brings together three musicians from different generations, yet united by a unique creative focus and an interpretive-expressive quality that is at the top of the global jazz scene.
