TONOLO/DEIDDA/ROSSY TRIO - Dolomiti Ski Jazz
Concert of the Rossy - Tonolo - Deidda trio, three masters of European jazz.
Concert by the Italian-Spanish trio consisting of Jorge Rossy on drums and vibraphone, Pietro Tonolo on saxophones and Dario Deidda on electric bass.
The Rossy - Tonolo - Deidda Trio brings together three European jazz masters who have performed and recorded with many of the leading figures of international jazz, past and present. The three musicians share a deep knowledge of jazz language and standards, as well as an adventurous and open approach to improvisation that takes them to a place that transcends style. Each has a strong individual voice as a deeply lyrical soloist. Playing in the tradition of the ‘pianoless trio’, which provides ample space for all three instruments to create parts outside their traditional roles and for transparency in collective interaction, the various combinations in the band's instrumentation provide for a myriad of colours within the repertoire.
Dario Deidda's musical voice is expressed through his completely unique approach to the electric bass. He has deep roots in bebop and his particularly beautiful sound and melodic phrasing are unmistakable. His sound blends acoustic and electric elements and his style is deeply rooted in both traditions.
Pietro Tonolo's profound knowledge of a wide variety of different musical traditions allows him to move fluidly between them while remaining completely himself. He is a true improviser, always attentive and incredibly imaginative in his contributions to the development of the band's sound. The different instruments he plays - the tenor and soprano saxophones and the flute - bring out different aspects of his vast musical palette.
Jorge Rossy in this band plays two very different instruments, each contributing a different set of colours. As a vibraphone player, he has a unique melodic voice that focuses on expressive dynamics and evocative harmonies. As a drummer, Jorge shapes the band's sound with imagination, finesse and driving energy.
The repertoire covers a broad spectrum of jazz styles, from Thelonious Monk to Sam Rivers to Burt Bacharach. New interpretations of works by these and other composers are supplemented by original compositions. The musicians contribute unique personal statements that arise from the magic of the moment in a joyful yet intimate setting. The band collectively tells engaging musical stories, creating playful sonic frescoes.
