Castel Romano is a fascinating ruin in Pieve di Bono, surrounded by mystery: according to the most famous legend, Countess Lodron would lure the most handsome young men here and then kill them.

Castel Romano, which dominates the entire Valle del Chiese up to Lake Idro, was built in the 12th century to defend the road connecting the Brescia area with the Giudicarie. Precisely because of its strategic position, over the centuries it has been targeted by looting and attacks by various armies. The rectangular tower, which dominates the valley, is further evidence of the structure's strategic importance. The decline began when the Counts Lodron transferred their power to other parts of Trentino, Austria and Bavaria. There are many legends that surround the castle: according to the most famous, countess Dina Lodron - the feudal house that dominated the Valle del Chiese - would lure the most handsome young men of the dominion here and then kill them.Access to the castle is by guided tour. For organized groups, possibility of visits by reservation (from April/May to September/October), by contacting the Il Chiese Association (info@ilchiese.it – 331/838 7606).

STRENGTH:
The castle dominates the entire Valle del Chiese up to Lago d 'Idro.
