Palazzi de’ Pizzini von Hochenbrunn
The two palaces were also home to Charles III of Spain, Charles VI, Napoleon Bonaparte, Francis I and Maria Theresa of Austria, as well as intellectuals and artists such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
In the historic centre of Ala, Palazzo de’ Pizzini is a complex of three buildings - two palaces plus a house - built between the end of the 1600s and the end of the 1700s, once connected to each other by a corridor similar to Venice's Bridge of Sighs. The style is Baroque: on the portal of Via Santa Caterina you can admire the noble coat of arms with the seven-pointed stars, while on the facade of Piazza Burri - more sober and elegant - the fresco of the Veronese school stands out, with the portraits of the Madonna with Child and Saint Catherine. The Pizzini, originally from Castellano, arrived in Ala at the end of the 16th century to make "molinarj". Growing rich thanks to the textile business, they moved into rich and imposing homes. Palazzo de’ Pizzini inferior was used as a residence, Palazzo de’ Pizzini superior as a guesthouse.
