Ecomuseo del Vanoi
The Ecomuseo of Vanoi embraces the SPACE (in the broadest context and extending to the whole environment, to the landscape, to man's places and activities, to the material and spiritual culture and to spaces recognised and made use of on a daily basis...), the TIME (tracing the history of man from his past in this area to the present day, with a view to the future, recognising the continuity of history, the transformations and possible evolution...), the COMMUNITY (a mirror in which the population recognises itself, where it seeks the values of the area to which it is linked, presenting the area to visitors in order to better make itself understood, respecting its work and identity...) and the SKILLS (still present in the activities, crafts and knowledge conserved in the living memories and skills of many inhabitants, offered as a working resource and in new creative and entrepreneurial forms).
The Ecomuseo aims at 7 main themes:
WATER: for centuries the Vanoi stream has represented a means of transporting timber, with mills and sawmills, springs and irrigation ditches
WOOD: the wealth of the Vanoi valley since the 14th century
MINES: lead, copper, zinc and silver mines dating back to the 15th century, a place where hundreds of German miners known as bergknappen or canopi worked. Lime kilns for the production of lime
RELIGIOUS SITES: signs linked to worship are to be found everywhere, with churches, shrines, frescoes, rural and processional crosses
WAR: the war cemetery, the First World War museum in Caoria, the walkways and trenches high in the mountains
GRASS: meadows at medium altitude for haymaking, a resource and feature of the landscape
MOBILITY: the movement of people within the valley and towards the outside world.

CASA DELL'ECOMUSEO in Canal San Bovo: centre and gateway to the Vanoi Ecomuseum, with permanent displays and temporary exhibitions on subjects related to the ecomuseum
STANZA DEL SACRO in Zortea: conserves objects linked to popular worship and historic memories related to sacred themes
FIRST WORLD WAR MUSEUM in Caoria: houses objects and memories relating to the Great War in the Lagorai mountains
CASA DEL SENTIERO ETNOGRAFICO in Caoria: centre and gateway to the Vanoi ethnographic trail
SITES HIGH IN THE MOUNTAINS: Prà de Madego, Pradi de Tognola, Siéga de Valzanca
ARTS AND CRAFTS of time gone by in Caoria: collection of objects, instruments and working tools once used by the local community
MOLINI DEI CAINERI in Ronco: ancient mills, renovated for ethnographic and production purposes.
