Delve into the daily life of the German-speaking Mòcheni community that settled in this valley in the 13th century

Journey back in time to learn how the Mòcheni lived in centuries past. The Filzerhof farmstead, which dates back to the 18th century in its current form, was purchased and renovated by the Mòcheno Cultural Institute while preserving its traditional features. The brickwork ground floor is split between residential and agricultural use. One door leads to the old kitchen (òlt hous) with its oven for bread, the kitchen (haus) and the bedrooms (kòmmern), with one dedicated to the Mòcheno language, while another leads to the barn (stòll). The top floor is almost entirely for storing feed, plus a covered area (stodl) for threshing grains and a small room accessed from the gallery. The refurbished roof consists of almost 3,000 larch shingles made by hand, one at a time, using wood from the valley.

HIGHLIGHT
The wood used to make the building and furnishings.
