Between 1542 and 1563, Trento was at the centre of world affairs as the eponymous site of the Council that altered the history of the Church. The Diocesan Museum in Trento is the best place to learn more about this period. In the historic Palazzo Pretorio, where the prince bishops once lived, you can admire an incredible treasure trove of art and culture. Paintings, wooden sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, precious jewellery, ancient embroidery and sumptuous Flemish tapestries… a wealth of art dating to between the 11th and 19th centuries is accompanied by fascinating insights and multi-media installations.
The museum itinerary is further enhanced by the option for visitors to view the nearby Cattedrale di San Vigilio from above and to visit the archaeological site of Porta Veronensis (mid-first century CE).
