Altopiano di Boniprati
It lies on the top of an offshoot of the Adamello mountain range on the right bank downstream of the River Chiese, west of Monte Melino and has been called Boniprati since time immemorial. For centuries it was the centre of the agricultural and pastoral economies of the communities living in Prezzo, Bersone, Cimego and Castel Condino. Farmers stayed here when taking their animals up to the mountain pastures in spring and returning to the valley in autumn, when the eighty or so houses became a village in its own right high up in the mountains.
Today it appears to visitors as a large open plain 1160 metres above sea level, which opens out in all its amazing, multi-coloured beauty, after the winding ascent from the valley floor.
Exceptionally beautiful colours alternate over the course of the seasons when the deep green meadows form a backdrop to the lovely multi-coloured meadow flowers. At the centre of the plateau there is an area of marshland, now a biotope, which has been created by the particular microclimate here and the shape of the land.
The Boniprati plateau today represents the ideal base camp for excursions of various levels of difficulty, from quiet relaxing walks through the woods and meadows on the plateau to the large number of routes ascending high up in the mountains amidst mountain dairies, streams and little lakes, embellished by the presence rhododendrons, bilberries, gentians and alpine flowers.
