Lake Santa Giustina is located near Cles, in the heart of Val di Non. The lake is artificial in origin, and was created when an imposing dam was built here between 1943 and 1951. The lake has become a perfectly integrated feature of the valley's landscape and offers visitors beautiful views. As the largest lake in the region, it is used to collect water from the River Noce catchment area, which is then employed to make electricity. The lake has an overall volume of 182 million cubic meters of water, with a length of 8 km and a maximum width of 1 km. Its waters wind their way through the canyons of the area, creating picturesque landscapes that are very popular amongst canoeing-enthusiasts. The castle of Cles is still privately owned and is held by the descendents of the family of the Prince-Bishop Bernardo Clesio. Together with the remains of the castle of Cagnò, it dominates the landscape.
