The wetlands occupy almost the entire bottom of the Val Lomasona - a glacial valley opening up onto the Campo Lomaso plain. It looks like a wide wet prairie, dotted with small channels and pools. Most of the vegetation here features wet grasses, and a special mixture of herbage dominated by grass, while marsh meadows grow in places featuring stagnant waters. Thick clumps of bottle sedges are particularly widespread here, while the pools and channels of the area play host to an interesting array of aquatic plants, including a few stoneworts. The area is also a nesting ground for a number of common bird species such as water rails, marsh warblers, and reed buntings.
