33 - Elbele Tour

The Èlbele is the small wooded hill located near Carbonare. In Cimbrian, it means 'small alp', understood as a grazing area or elevation. The northern side overlooks the upper Centa valley, while the southern side faces the wide meadow and pasture area known as Langenbisen ('long meadows' in Cimbrian). It is covered with coppice woodland, mainly beech and hornbeam, mixed with conifers like Norway spruces and larches. The high face of Vigolana and Bècco di Filadonna serves as a backdrop.

It is not the elevation of Èlbele, with its mountain hut, woods, and meadows, that is the most interesting element of the route. Worthier of note is the Command of Virti, the destination of the walk, that is the remains of the command station that during the Great War (1914-1918) was set up in a deep natural gorge. The place, wrapped in silence, is of great beauty. The rock shelters are also visitable.
