830 - Carbonare - Rust - Lake Lavarone

Monte Rust. A mountain, more than a mountain a height to climb and bypass by cycling through a beautiful mixed forest of beeches and spruces. Here there are echoes of the Great War but above all there is... the romantic beauty of Lake Lavarone!

In old times the village of Carbonare was referred to as “Kankohligen,” which means “at the charcoal burners,” that is, the place inhabited by woodcutters who produced charcoal. It is history now. From Carbonare we start to climb the wooded slope of Monte Rust, aiming for the summit of the height. Up there awaits the “Observatory,” a masonry structure without a roof, in whose walls holes have been made. It is a Great War building. Electric projectors were fixed in the holes, allowing optical signal exchange between forts and command stations. Let's look inside. The forts are no longer in the sights but the green of the spruces has taken the stage! We then get back on the MTB and descend from the height; after leaving the forest, a surprise awaits us... the beautiful Lake Lavarone! How about a dip in this Bike Friendly lake? At the beaches, a kit with a towel awaits you!
