Hike to the magnificent high-altitude pastures of Malga Binasia di sopra (2138 m), one of the highest alpine farms in Trentino, a lovely destination also during winter with snowshoes. The route follows a comfortable forest road through the woods. From the hut, the summit of Monte Pin is reachable via a path that poses practically no difficulty, although it crosses rather steep slopes. From the peak, there is an extraordinary panorama. We propose a circular route that, starting from Malga Binasia, follows the ridges along the northwest ridge and descends from the south side.

    Author’s recommendation

Access to Malga Binasia, located at an altitude of 2135 m, allows free car passage only at certain times of the year (contact ASUC of Livo).
It is a hike best done in good weather and clear conditions to fully appreciate the exceptional panorama.

For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

    Tips and suggestions

Make sure to check the weather forecast before leaving, bring a detailed map of the area and a first aid kit, and always inform someone you trust about your itinerary.

    Roadbook

The walk continues on foot along a pleasant, though somewhat long, forest road (about 3-4 km). First, you reach Malga Binasia di sotto (2010 m), and after 1 km, Malga Binasia di sopra, situated in a beautiful grassy basin and recently renovated by the ASUC of Livo. From here, you could take path 131b for a shorter route to the summit of Monte Pin, but in this itinerary, we suggest a more adventurous route that follows the ridges, which are still quite simple. From Malga Binasia, head directly toward Passo Binasia (2296 m), easily reachable in about 15-20 minutes, from which there is a spectacular view of Malga Lavazzè and surrounding peaks, including Cima della Siromba (2593 m) and, in the background, Cima degli Olmi (Ilmenspitz) at 2656 meters. There is no official trail from the Pass, but a good track indicates the route southeast, following the ridge. With a long and panoramic traverse, you reach several minor peaks along the ridge, marked on the map as 2399, 2363, 2305. At this last elevation, you reunite with path 131b coming from Malga Binasia. Another 1 km on the steep south slopes of Monte Pin and finally, with a last effort, you reach the summit. It is a hike best done in good weather and clear conditions to fully enjoy the exceptional panorama. The descent follows the normal path, i.e., 131b, which returns to Malga Binasia and then along the forest road back to the car. For those wanting an alternative, at elevation 2305, you can choose to descend to Malga Borca di sopra (ruins) following path 131. Here, be careful not to lose altitude because you need to reach Malga Borca di sotto via unclear tracks, from where you return northwest to rejoin the forest road. Fortunately, this last alpine farm has been recovered and is being renovated thanks to the initiative of a local farm.
