Author’s recommendation
Those who do not have snowshoes can rent them at Nolo Ski Gianni at the Roen lift base. From the pass, continue for 1 km following the piste signs and then park near the lift station.
Those who want to reduce the elevation gain of the hike can choose to take the chairlift for the first section up to the Mezzavia Refuge.

Due to heavy traffic, the trail is always well beaten. However, be careful not to lose your way in fog or bad weather.
The route does not present particular technical difficulties. However, you must be familiar with snowy environments to face it. Alternatively, we always recommend relying on a mountain guide on one of our guided winter hikes: book comfortably online here!

Roadbook
From the chairlift, take the path on the right side of the slope that goes up through the woods to reach the Mezzavia Refuge. From here, continue following the trail marked SAT 500, which alternates between moderately steep sections and flatter parts, then after about another hour's walk, reach a wide sunny clearing where the Malga di Romeno is located. After a well-deserved break on the terrace or inside by the warmth of the stove, continue for the final, most challenging section.
From the Malga, continue following the SAT 500 trail, which immediately becomes quite steep. The path narrows and winds through the characteristic dwarf pines that characterize the high slope of Monte Roen. The effort of this last stretch between the Malga di Romeno and the summit of Monte Roen is rewarded by an incredible panorama overlooking the Adige Valley and the Dolomites.
The return is made by the same route.
