Echen Nature Reserve

The Echen Nature Reserve, on the Folgaria plateau, is a small corner of unspoiled nature. It is located in the suburb area of Costa and is adjacent to the Maso Spilzi golf course.

<p>The &#34;Echen Peat Bog&#34; is a wetland of particular scientific value as a very rare example of a peat deposit in a karst environment: the substrate is in fact made up of limestone rocks covered by moraine deposits.</p> <p>The wetland area is located at about 1260 m above sea level and covers an area of about 4 hectares; it is colonized by numerous plant associations, mostly sedge communities.</p> <p>In the center of the peat bog there is a water collection whose level varies throughout the year depending on precipitation.</p> <p>The water body has undergone significant changes even in the past: the study of the stratification of peat deposits allows the reconstruction of the temporal succession of different types of vegetation.</p> <p>This protected area is also part of the European Natura 2000 network created for the protection and enhancement of habitats and species of community interest (code IT3120078)</p>
