Lago Santo
A dream tour around Lake Cembra
The deep blue waters, contrasting with the green trees surrounding it, make this basin resemble a sapphire set within the Val di Cembra woods. A gravel road running close to its shores allows a peaceful walk around the lake in just under an hour. Strolling unhurriedly offers a chance to enjoy the relaxing view and also to make some interesting observations. It is worth noting the presence of several striking birch trees growing near the shores. The water reed forms more or less dense populations alternating with large sedge clumps rising directly from the water. Where human presence is lower, behind the reed bed and sedge area, there is a very particular meadow environment: the so-called wet meadow characterized by the presence of species, such as small sedges, well adapted to living on water-saturated ground. Also worth mentioning is the lake’s outflow which forms a small watercourse of particular naturalistic value as it hosts a precious population of freshwater crayfish. The swimming area located along the northernmost section of the shores offers visitors the opportunity to relax in the sun and swim safely thanks to the presence of a lifeguard service. Near the lake there are also some public establishments where it is possible to stop to eat or take a break.
