The Valle dei Laghi has been shaped by viticulture for centuries. Here, the vine is more than a crop: it is landscape, culture and identity. No grape variety embodies this heritage better than Nosiola, a wine grape that tells a story of ingenuity, patience, resilience and a deep connection with the land. The Nosiola Trail leads through vineyards and the places most closely linked to this native variety, offering visitors the opportunity to discover an entire region and understand viticulture as a cultural, environmental and human heritage.

    Author’s recommendation

The wineries and distilleries of the Valle dei Laghi preserve a remarkable heritage of traditions, craftsmanship and food & wine excellence. This is the birthplace of Nosiola, Trentino's only native white grape variety, and of Vino Santo Trentino DOC, its finest expression. Alongside them, Rebo, Reboro, Trentodoc sparkling wines and a wide range of still wines showcase the extraordinary diversity of the region.

Visiting a winery means much more than tasting wine: it is an opportunity to meet the people behind each bottle, discover their stories and experience the authentic soul of the Valle dei Laghi.

    Roadbook

The Nosiola Trail starts at the Santa Massenza hydroelectric power station and initially follows the lakeshore southwards through olive groves. At the roundabout, cross the road, follow the pavement to the left and take the paved lane on the right.

After passing the fish farm, turn right onto a rural farm road and begin climbing the hills of the Monti di Calavino, the heart of Nosiola cultivation. Along the way you'll come across the evocative ruins of an old stone building, where you turn left to continue uphill. Surrounded by vineyards, the trail offers stunning views over the Valle dei Laghi, the sheer cliffs of the Paganella massif and Lake Toblino.

Continue to the Church of Corgnon, then turn left and descend towards Calavino, enjoying beautiful views of Castel Madruzzo. Walk through the village, known for the small waterways that once powered its mills and for the noble residences of the Madruzzo family. At the main road, turn left and continue downhill through the countryside along Via Concordia.

Before long, the vineyards come back into view as you reach the outskirts of Padergnone. At the roadside shrine, keep right and, after about 100 metres, turn left onto Via alle Cime. This short detour avoids the main road and leads you into the village through a peaceful woodland.

Once in Padergnone, pass Casa Caveau del Vino Santo, the church and the town hall, then turn right into Via del Ponte, which runs beneath the viaduct and into the countryside overlooking Lake Santa Massenza.

Turn left onto the farm track that winds through the vineyards and follow it back towards Santa Massenza. Cross the main road and continue through the fields before rejoining the paved road alongside the hydroelectric power station. Follow it into the centre of the village, where a stop at one of the local wineries or distilleries is highly recommended. From the church square, turn left to return to the starting point.
