SAT / E124 - Carbonare - Monte Maggio - P. Borcola
It's a long and pleasant, yet challenging, itinerary that rises from the Carbonare saddle to the height of Forte Cherle. It then continues to the wooded height of Durer. Then it comes out into the open, reaches Passo Coe, and climbs Monte Maggio before finally descending to Passo della Bórcola. The entire route is part of the European Path - E5 and the Peace Trail.

From the church of Carbonare, follow the road uphill to Folgarìa until the Girardi lower farm, at the first fork with a small road branching off to the left (shrine and fountain). Follow this small road until you reach and cross the Sper bridge over the Astico stream. Just after, ignore the first right fork, and take the path at a second fork, also to the right, that climbs steeply up the southern slope of Cherle and, crossing a wonderful forest with less incline, arrives at the pastures of the former Clama Malga, at the junction with a forest road. With a steep climb in the forest on a dirt road, it continues southeast, reaching the Cherle Hotel on the Fiorentini Road.

To visit the ruins of the former Forte Cherle, follow a mule track and, to the right, circle the northwest slope of the hill, returning to the Fiorentini road near the Austrian military cemetery. Crossing the road, climb the "Imperial Staircase", which reaches the remains of the former military hospital, beyond which you cross the Val Fredda forest road and continue through the forest southwards, cutting the west side of Monte Durer along the wide ridge of Dos dell'Avezòn. Exiting the forest, reach and cross the road at the fork for Malga Pioverna. Continue climbing in the pasture which, here and there, is dotted with plants. Shortly you reach the grassy edge, at 1732 meters, with a view of Monte Maggio. From here, descend steeply over rocks and scree to reach the grass basin of Bocca di Valle Orsara and continue straight (south), crossing the meadows to reach Passo Coe. Crossing the asphalt road, take the small road passing to the left of Bar Restaurant "la Stua" and, always heading south, cross the meadows of Malga Cóe. Exiting the pasture gate, immerse yourself in the forest and clearings of Alpe di Zonta (pay attention to trail markers at forks) until joining, at 1655 meters, the military road coming from the left from Malga Zonta. Follow it almost straight southwards, gradually climbing with a gentle slope until reaching the summit and the cross of Monte Maggio. The summit offers an excellent panorama over the Valle di Terragnolo, much of the Vicentine Prealps, the Pasubio, and, in the distance, the Brenta Dolomites and Carè Alto. At the summit of Monte Maggio, trail 520 coming from Molini di Laghi also arrives.

Leaving the summit, continue along the watershed (south) and, following a very open route, first reach Coston dei Laghi, then Monte Borcoletta. From here, you start to lose altitude significantly, descending through a grassy funnel to a viewpoint at 1615 meters. Continue descending, skirting the highest part of the chasm caused by the former marble quarry (1450 m), and then with a final descent reach Passo della Bórcola.
