SAT / E205 - Busa Verle - Cima Vézzena - Porta Manazzo
One of the most scenic trails in Lower Trentino, on the border with Veneto. It runs along the ridges of Cima Vézzena and Cima Mandriolo and, combined with SAT trails 209, 208, and 206, allows for the complete crossing of the Cima Dodici mountain range. To enter the SAT 205 trail from Monterovere, you must first follow the SAT 201 trail up to the Baita Cangi. From the 1908 m of Cima Vézzena, from the square of the homonymous Austro-Hungarian Fort, you have one of the most beautiful views of southern Trentino.
From Baita Cangi we follow the forest road that runs flat, through dense fir forests, heading east, initially together with the European Trail - E5. At the first junction, we leave the wider road and the E5 to Lusèrna and turn left, following a narrower dirt road with a slight uphill that leads us to cross the asphalt road coming from Passo Vézzena, right at the edge of the pasture area of Busa Vérle, a large grassy basin characterized by the ruins of Forte Busa Vérle, one of the strongholds of the Austrian defensive system in World War I (1914-1918). From the "Busa," turning left, we follow the paved road for a short stretch until the woods, where we leave it (signage) to enter, again to the left, the path that climbs steeply into the fir forest. Climbing in altitude, the path takes us near Pizzotto and then, in the dwarf pine woods, up to the summit of Cima Vézzena (or Pizzo di Levico) and the homonymous Fort. The panorama, wide and suggestive, forces us to a stop. From the summit, the path stays close to the watershed and descends to Bocca di Forno; it climbs again through dwarf pine woods and pastures near the busy ridge of Cima Mandriolo (or Mandriolo) to graze the panoramic summit that dominates the Val di Sella and stretches across the entire horizon: from the Venetian Prealps, to Cima d'Asta, from Lagorai to the Brenta Dolomites, from Pasubio to the Plateaus. From the summit, among dwarf pines, pastures, and wooded sections, the path continues descending on the opposite ridge until it reaches, among splendid pastures, the Porta Manazzo pass, an important node of the local hiking network. In case of fog, be careful not to lose the trail.
