The Austrians' and Alpini's Trail

This route follows the trails, walkways, and fortifications of World War I. It takes visitors on a journey to discover key positions along the Austrian and Italian front lines. The Torrione d'Albiolo, located at an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters, was one of the “strongholds” contested by the two armies.

The highest part of this circular route—known as the “Sentiero degli Alpini”—consists of an easy via ferrata that winds its way up rocks and scree slopes before climbing the rocky outcrops and the northern ridge of Punta d'Albiolo, before returning along the southern ridge, after traversing a beautiful and scenic suspended ledge that cuts across the west face.

slide 2 of 10
