Tour 1442 - Quattro Ville: easy castle route among the apple orchards of Val di Non
Val di Non at its best side: castles, old historic residences, and magnificent panoramas of the surrounding mountain ranges from the perspective of the apple orchards.
An endless stretch of apple orchards and ancient ruins are the protagonists of this very varied route among the municipalities of the “4 Ville”. Mostly asphalted bike paths and secondary country roads with almost no traffic are used. Occasionally there are some climbs, but overall the technical and physical difficulty is very low. This means you have more time to admire the landscapes and cultural beauties. One of the most spectacular viewpoints is on Castel Cles, which from its height dominates the underlying Lake Santa Giustina. Then riding south, you also pass by Castel Valer and Castel Nanno, private residences visitable by guided tours.

Roadbook
From Tuenno, continue on the easy “Country” variant of the Dolomiti di Brenta Bike route towards Cles, the valley's main town. To do this, from Piazza Alpini in Tuenno, where the supermarket is located, continue behind the church heading east. Upon reaching the main road (SP10), head north. On a gentle climb, pass the pharmacy and reach the roundabout near the large apple warehouse (km 1.3) on Via Quattro Ville. At the roundabout, continue straight and pedal along farm roads between the apple orchards. Pass by the Sports Center (km 2.3) and continue parallel to the main road until the center of Cles, where you need to be cautious of town traffic.
After the fire station at the town entrance at km 3.8, you reach a roundabout where the bike path ends. Here, continue straight for another 500 meters on Via Alcide de Gasperi, then cross left near the pedestrian crossing and take the narrow Via Giacomo Bresadola, which climbs for 200 meters. This brings you to Via Armando Diaz, which you take to the right to reach the historic center and Piazza Granda (km 5.0). It is worth pausing here to admire the architecture of the ancient buildings surrounding the square and the streets of the center, then descend carefully (one-way) along Via Roma where the historic Palazzo Assessorile residence is located.
Continue briefly on the SS43 state road, which corresponds to Via Marconi (km 5.3), beginning at the roundabout in front of the church, and head north towards Val di Sole. After only 150 meters, leave it by turning right onto Via del Castello. Cross the railway tracks and after a slight right hairpin turn, you will see the majestic Cles Castle reflected in the artificial Santa Giustina Lake. Continue along the same gravel road, which now turns south and passes through the charming village of Maiano with the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. Cross the railway tracks again through an underpass and reach the SS43 state road (km 7.9). Cross it and continue straight down a small initial descent, then climb along country roads through apple orchards towards Rallo. At the traffic light junction (km 9.2), turn left onto Via di Santo Spirito. At the end of this road, you reach a T-junction where you turn right onto Via Pinamonti and pass near the church (km 9.7). At the junction, go right towards the elementary schools, and at the next junction near Bar Berti, turn left onto Via Borgo Manera (km 9.8), heading east towards Sanzenone. In Sanzenone (km 10.3), make a sudden left onto Via Al Palù, then right again onto Via Garibaldi. On Via Busetti (km 10.6), turn left and follow the road to a T-junction (km 10.8). Here, briefly continue left, then immediately turn right onto the dirt country road leading to Castel Valer (km 1.1), visible from afar. The access road to the castle has a private property sign; here turn left and descend to the village of Tassullo. Cross the village center, passing near the Town Hall and along Via della Santa and Via S. Vigilio. Leave the village heading south on SP10 towards Nanno. During the descent, watch for the left turn (km 13.0) onto a secondary dirt road also leading to Nanno. Upon reaching Nanno (km 15.0), pass the church and reach the village supermarket via Via Centrale and Via Bergamo. Leave Nanno uphill on SP10 heading northwest, passing Castel Nanno (km 15.5) and the church dedicated to Saints Fabian and Sebastian (km 16.1). Continue on the same road until just before Tuenno (km 16.9), where turn left onto an alternative path (Via Snao) that leads directly to Tuenno’s village center.
