Hidden tresures in Villa Lagarina

From the church to the silk twisting mill

A walk among masterpieces of early Trentino Baroque, the liturgical treasures of the noble Lodron family, and an ancient silk twisting mill.

The meeting point for this trek is the village square, in front of the Baroque Church of Santa Maria Assunta.

The church, with its slender spire and elegant façade, hides an interior rich in decoration, dominated by the imposing altar, built in 1700 and flanked by the noble chapel of the Lodron family, a masterpiece of early Trentino Baroque.

During the afternoon treks in May and September, a short walk will lead to the discovery of the Filatoio di Piazzo, a rare example of a structure used for silk twisting, which once housed up to 4,000 spindles operating simultaneously, and whose main mechanisms are still preserved.

On the evening itineraries in July and August, visitors will instead discover the interiors of Palazzo Libera, a noble residence of the Gasperini and Libera families, now a branch of the Diocesan Museum of Trento: inside are precious liturgical treasures from the nearby sacristy, closely linked to the patronage of the Lodron family.
