Traveling on a model scale and being mesmerized by trains is like immersing yourself in a world eighty-seven times smaller than reality, yet still faithful to the true one and rich with the same charm. 'Playing with toy trains,' a phrase that no true model railroader would utter, as if revealing the childish nature of a passion, is a complicated hobby that requires time, dedication, and very in-depth knowledge. While some may have an almost pathological collecting tendency, for others this interest translates into true works of art, the layouts or railroad dioramas. Constrained within a limited space, in contrast to its real-life counterpart that can traverse nearly infinite expanses, the model train must repeatedly trace the same oval, always returning on its path: but continuing to watch it - as Pessoa would say - is a formidable exercise to entertain the mind, and also a very special dive into our childhood.
