Preore is located along the Sarca river, at the feet of Mount Amolo (1332 m a.s.l.), before Tione. In the 15th Century it was the most important municipality of the valley: it used to host the Prince Bishop Vicar for the Giudicarie and the court which was later moved to Tione. Preore, together with Montagne and Ragoli, still belongs to the age-old institution of the Spinale and Manez regulation, a community founded in 1377 that administers the common heritage of landscapes, woods and real properties for social purposes.
Preore is the birthplace of Filippo Serafini (1831-1897), the celebrated Roman law scholar who taught at the Universities of Pavia, Bologna, Rome and Pisa, and who used to be a Senator of the Italian Kingdom.
