On 28 January, the symbol of the Games will cross Val di Fassa, carried by torchbearers in a long relay race along the ski slopes and main roads of the villages
On the ski slopes and along the roads. The route of stage 52 of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay, which will cross the entire Val di Fassa on 28 January, is an exciting one. The Ladin valley is preparing to experience a historic day of sport and excitement with a symbolic event that combines ski trails and main roads in a great moment of celebration, to which the local community and guests are invited to share a unique experience.
The torch's journey through Val di Fassa is divided into two stages, involving some of the most representative places in the area. The flame arrives from nearby Val Gardena (where it departs at 8 a.m.) via the ski slopes of the Sellaronda to be carried - with a possible spectacular climb to Sass Pordoi - to Canazei. To reach the village, the torchbearers on skis will slalom down the "del bosco" slope, carrying the Olympic flame, until they reach the entrance to the village.
The procession will cross the square in the historic centre, "San Floriano", and several streets in the historic centre to reach the main Strèda de Pareda, where the torchbearers on foot will meet up with the convoy of cars following behind. The torchbearers will cover the route on foot, flanked by several support vehicles, until they leave the village near the Park Hotel Il Caminetto.
The Canazei - Campitello route includes:
- 10:30 a.m. - arrival of the torch in the village on the forest track, crossing the historic centre and meeting in the area of the Belvedere cable car valley station
- 10:59 a.m. - departure along the state road
- 11:51 a.m. - arrival in Campitello, crossing the village to the border with Mazzin
In the late morning, the flame will return to the spotlight on the Soraga - Moena route:
- 1:10 p.m. - departure from Soraga, from the roundabout in the industrial area to the square and the main street of the village in the direction of Moena, passing through the Pezzè roundabout
- 1:55 p.m. - expected arrival in Moena, after reaching the centre of the village via Piaz de Ramon, Piaz de Sotegrava and the main streets of the village to the Zanoner sawmill
At this point, the journey of stage 52 will continue towards Val di Fiemme to Cavalese, where it is expected to arrive at 7:30 p.m. Temporary closures to vehicular traffic are planned along the roads affected by the procession.
Among the many torchbearers for this stage are Chiara Costazza, an alpine skier from Pozza (who participated in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, 2010 in Vancouver and 2018 in Pyeongchang) and Martino Soracreppa, a hockey player from Canazei (who participated in the 1992 Olympics in Albertville). They will be joined by the directors of the five ski schools in the valley, several young athletes from the Ski College in Pozza and many other sports enthusiasts.
The passage of the Olympic Flame represents not only a moment of anticipation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also an opportunity to reaffirm the central role of the Dolomites and the Ladin communities in the history of winter sports. An event that unites past, present and future, igniting the enthusiasm of residents and visitors throughout the valley.
