Memorial Exhibition for the 80th Anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
“From today, the memorial exhibition dedicated to the eightieth anniversary of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively, is open at Base Tuono. The destruction of the two cities and the two hundred thousand victims that resulted led to Japan's surrender to the United States and the end of World War II, which had concluded in Europe three months earlier with Germany's surrender. The exhibition was conceived by the curator of Base Tuono, Maurizio Struffi, and promoted by the Magnificent Community of Folgaria along with the Historical Museum Foundation of Trentino. The display consists of a series of large photographs depicting the devastating effects of the two nuclear explosions on both the cities and their inhabitants, as well as five texts. These explain the tremendous energy of the atom, the attempts made by Hitler's scientists to be the first to develop the bomb, the Manhattan Project that involved hundreds of American scientists, and, finally, the decision to use the two most powerful bombs ever made up to that point to force the Japanese to end the conflict. The concluding photo is dedicated to Albert Einstein and his famous quote: “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
