The town is situated in green countryside in the westernmost reaches of the Valle di Ledro, at only 7 km from Ledro lake. Nearby is the Lago d´Ampola biotope, a protected lake sanctuary with a well-equipped Visitor's Centre, where a short nature trail follows a path through an area featuring some unusual aquatic and marsh plants. Set in the Upper Val di Ledro, on the edge of Western Trentino, this is one of the most interesting Trentino biotopes, one of the very few lakes still in its natural state.
Tiarno di Sopra has several hotels, a camping site, self-catering apartments and holiday homes.
At Passo Tremalzo there are mountain bike trails and, in winter, opportunities for cross-country skiing and ski-mountaineering.
