Polenta e mortadella
Free distribution of polenta and mortadella in Varone
This event has its origins in 1463: the traditional free distribution of polenta and mortadella in Varone, which originated from an ancient ‘benefit’ owed by the Curia to the community (a ‘soma of wheat bread, a brenta of wine and a minale of cooked flour’), returns on Sunday 9 March, the First Sunday of Lent, at the church square and oratory field.
